Obtain French citizenship by birth and residence in France before 18

You can apply for a French nationality certificate if you are in the following situation :

- article 21-7 of the French civil code :

you are born in France to foreign parents

you had your residence in France at the time of your majority

you had your habitual residence in France for a continuous or discontinuous period of at least 5 years, since the age of 11.

You can apply for French nationality by declaration if you are in one of the following situation :

- article 21-11 of the French civil code :

1. You can apply between 16 and 18 if :

you are born in France to foreign parents

you have your residence in France at the time of your declaration

you had your habitual residence in France for a continuous or discontinuous period of at least 5 years, since the age of 11.

2. You can apply from the age of 13 by your parents if :

you are born in France to foreign parents

you have your residence in France at the time of your declaration

you had your habitual residence in France for a continuous or discontinuous period of at least 5 years, since the age of 8.
